Chatting on the back porch

Good morning rock star,

Community bulletin:

What an intense, deep, amazing, and powerful week it has been for our little (but growing) electric town! By definition, a community consists of a group of people who have a particular interest in common. Our mission at CSC is pretty simple.

1. Get Real
2. Eat smart
3. Live like you mean it
4. Dig deep and tap into the sweet spot where your spirit cuddles
5. Speak up and get active
6. Plan for a long future BUT live in the moment

If you dig the mission then move to our town, set up residence, open a shop and give us a discount. Where am I going with all this? Well, for a while now I have been noticing the folks who quietly hang back and feel weird posting. You follow along in silence balancing your love for the community with a voyeuristic guilt. From this day forward let it be known that this is NOT just a cancer community. We are a loving group of seekers, holy rollers, hot tomatos, handy cowboys, urth mothers, food lovers, health advocates, makers of change, voters, yogi's, teachers, children of blinding light, and truth spinners. Do you fit in here? Heck yeah! In fact, the folks who don't have cancer make our town better, stronger, and more well rounded. So please confidently join the fun. Give us more of your insights. Trust your key board tickle and know that we not only value it, we (canSer babes and chaps) need it.

Looking ahead to some more inclusive directions.

A book club
An electric altar (an area where we can place the names of people who need a little extra love and prayer)

AWESOME site! A "must visit" site for sure!

Callie--Basic Missions is an awesome site! Congrats & Kudos on living compassion, health and education!

Glenda--You're paintings are beautiful! Did you delete your comment? Suddenly, I can't find it.

Yes-be aware of where your organic food is from. I was looking at some frozen organic vegetables and saw that they were grown in China. Hmmm...does China have unpolluted soil? And what about all the greenhouse gases released in shipping? I try to buy organic, but when it just doen't make sense I buy local. Have you heard of the 100 mile diet? You eat food produced within a 100 mile radius from where you live. It is excllent for the environment and your local economy. Not forgetting it may not be feasible during crtain times of year or in crtain gographical locations. It goes hand-in-hand with farmers food co-ops. Check it out.

I’ve since retired the tie, but thank-you. ☺

I don’t think (and I could be wrong here) that there are many of us who grew up in a ‘Leave it to Beaver’ like family atmosphere.

As RamDas would say, when we take human form, there is inherent in it, suffering. . . and how we each deal with that suffering shapes us. Some evolve fast, some slower.

Emotional abuse, if not processed properly, eventually can manifest itself into a physical illness (canser, ulcer, sore throat . . . even diarrhea)

We’re not here to be comfortable (I wish) . . . but to “get some work done” !

Miss Sandra:

You have thrown DOWN the Hemp Gauntlet missy ! ! !

Oy VEY Girl ! you sure know how to embarrass a guy . . . sheesh!

Me doth think though are inhaling TOO much ‘Flavenoids’ . . please cut back girl ;-)

And no, I am flattered to be compared to a George Clooney, but don’t believe her ladies. Thanks though, you’re very kind in your comparison.

Dr.Sue:

I by the Organic Turmeric (Frontier Herbs) by the lb. . . . and I also buy the empty gelatin capsules, as well as the capsule making machine. I believe the Organic version to possess more potent inflammatory properties than the non-organic. (just my opinion)

Put on some music and go to town with the capsulating process. In 2 hours, I make enough capsules to last me 4 months, at about 1/8th the cost.

Also, when you take MSM and Turmeric in the same day, they work very well together . . . as the MSM opens up the bodies detoxification pathways, and allows whatever other supplements, herbs,(even medications) etc … to work at a deeper level (thereby needing less quantities of the vitamin, herbs, etc … as a lot more of it is absorbed (because of the MSM)

I take 2 capsules, with each meal

You can find Turmeric here:
Turmeric – 1 lb. http://www.frontiercoop.com/prdDisp.
php?I=2604&full=y

Gelatin Capsules: http://www.frontiercoop.com/prdDisp.
php?I=6001&full=y

Capsule Making Machine: http://www.frontiercoop.com/prdDisp.
php?I=208849&full=y

I get MSM here:
https://www.dcnutrition.com/products/
Detail.CFM?RecordNumber=285

I agree with gooney (Jennifer)
There NO side effects from MSM. . . it’s changed people lives.

Granola;
I agree, it is tough to know where your Organics are coming from. I believe WholeFoods (here in Houston) does support the local Organic growers, so that’s at least one place that we know will not buy from China.

Becky:

Congrats on the good news with the scan ! Stay the course.

I must get back to writing my Blog story for Kris, or she’ll CRUCIFY me ! !

Anyone have a remedy for “Mental Constipation” ??
Writing your own life story here isn’t as easy as it seems.

Clint, sorry to have embarrassed you. Just write that little life story for Miss Kris and post your big boy pic and we'll see if the gang doesn't agree that you are still as adorable as your bow tie!

Becky, thanks for checking in. I hope you're breathing a sigh of relief.

I am so excited and had to share that today I found a new orgainc green market two seconds from my house. I had a yummy (well, it's relative) wheatgrass shot and bought some greens for a lot less than Whole Paycheck prices. Yay!

IT IS DEFINITELY MARDI GRAS ON CSC.

MARY.. SEND ME YOUR PHONE NUMBER TO calliekyle@comcast.net and I will call asap. I am not to shy to call GOD! Ha... I would love to talk to you.

Jennifer-Gooney- is it your birthday? If so happy birthday. Somewhere I think I read that I may be confused. But love anyway if it isn't.

Clint I empathize... oh brother.. Mental constipation needs to be a page on my site. Every Monday starts out with it. I am praying for you and giggling a bit with you. Take one capsule of merlot a big one the size of a two ounce wine glass.. relax then... relief.. haha.

I cannot believe it is almost Monday. I am not ready I need one more day.

Well I was missing you all. And I am all for granola and grendle and all the wonderul efforts.. Thanks for the cooperatives number and site all of the farmers markets here are not organic. Now I have spent the weekend looking for a place that we could send an order and voila.. it was here.. Thanks.

Much Love everyone. I am off to make a raw pizza... Duncan loves them and he is napping and needs some pampering. If anyone is interested you make the crust with whole wheat organic flour, water, sea salt and yeast.. it makes two crust so you can freeze one. Cook the crust until crispy and then put fresh veggies and enjoy Love you all. Callie

"we are the answer that we have all been waiting for"

Glenda,

You make me smile. Keep up the good work with the juice. You can make a difference! I'll be preying for good scans all week!

Clint-

I'm going to check out your links, that really got my attention. I didn't know you could make your own capsules. Which brings me to a question that I've had for a while. What are those capsules made of and is it possible they do any harm to the body? You are one-stop-shopping! Cute, Funny, Smart, Chef! Can't wait to read your blog.

Callie-

No, it's not my birthday, but it is coming up. We should have a birthday list for the new forum so I can send everyone a happy birthday greeting! You are such a good wife, making Duncan yummy food while he is napping. Is he doing OK?

Organics are not always good?! What?! Please don't make my brain melt down with this because I've been spending a lot of money. How can one buy local organics when it is winter? I live in the northeast so how would that work?

THANK YOU KRIS for replying,
I just saw your reply and I can't believe how excited I am to see KRIS CARR replying to me ......
I was yelling and showing it to my hubby that you wont believe Kris Carr replyed to me and showed him your reply and my name. (wow, even my name sounds so good coming from your computer). I am such a BIG fan of yours. I watch your show every now and then just to relax and bring back my positive attitude towards life.
THANKS ALOT Kris you really made my day,
Thank you sweety, I also felt that how can you eat everything cooked
and even fruits.
But, with you of you guys out there I think I will figure out soon what works for me and my seven year old with multiple food allergies.

Clint
Thank you for you advice, I have been eating Tumeric powder in my food but probably when I cook tumeric its anti-inflammatory part gets burned. Is it better to take the capsules.
I never tried MSM and now I will definitely start it on myself. Any advice if I can give it to my seven year old or not? I will definitely make his dose half.

Sue,
Great idea about combinning the raw diet and microbiotic together. I really think it would be great approach as going raw would be too hard for us.

Goony (Jennifer)
thank you for advice, I will definitely get MSM and with all of you guys I will win this battle of inflammatory war.

Love to all of you

Glomerulife:

What can I say . . . MSM:

Changed people lives by simply getting them out of pain, in a relatively short period of time. (1 week - 2 months) taken 3 - 5x's a day (1/2 teaspoon each time, with meals)

• Is the beauty mineral for women.

• Rebuilds collagen in woman faster than anything else.

• An excellent anti-inflammatory

• Opens up the bodies own detoxification pathways..

I mention the website (ealier post) because it's the purest form of MSM I know, the 'Biotics Research' Lab are sticklers for perfection in their products... and make their supplements easier to absorb... needing less of them, cause the body doesn't have to work as hard to break the vitamin down... they do the work in the lab for you.

I could go on . . .
Read more from a book written by 4 doctors . .

The Book, 'The Miracle of MSM':
http://www.bulkmsm.com/research/page1.htm

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FKA/is
_8_61/ai_59534976

MSM info:
http://www.msm-info.com/

iffat:

I have always taken Turmeric in capsules with a meal (2) 2 x's a day

MSM can be given to pets even, (in their water) am not sure of the amount. But for children, I'd break the dosage in half (1/2 teaspoon per day) and see the results, and work up from there.

Some times people have a healing crisis from taking MSM, and mistake it for an allergic reaction. In realty, their system is already starting to kick OUT toxins, and is starting to heal . . . I've backed off from it for a few days... and then start in again at a low dosage.

It's all an experiment folks... so try it out, and if it works.. stick with it.....and if not, move on to something else.

Again, I am not a doctor, and this is just my opinion... this is just what I have done for myself. You do all of this at your own risk.

Must . . . go . . . deflate . . . head . . . from Sandra's comment(s)

sincerely,

Clint

As far as I know, there are 2 kinds of gelatin capsules, Vegetable source and animal source.

I haven't heard of anyone getting sick from, or having an allergic reaction. Again, it's an experiment . . . but the capsules are pretty harmless.

The vegetable capsules are more expensive, and a little harder to find. (WholeFoods has them I know)

hope this helps,

Clint -

I've just always wondered about all the supps. that I take and what exactly the capsule is made of, but could never remember to look it up. So I will look into making my own, especially if it saves money.

Reem -

MSM worked immediately for my pain and inflamation. I had the kind of pain that required vicodin and my abdomen would swell so big it looked like I was 5 months pregnant. I started taking it and within the week the pain and swelling were gone. I've gone from 20 days of pain a month to about 4. So I know your question was directed at Clint, but I'm way too excited about this stuff to shut-up! Oh, and I take 3000 mg a day. I take 2000 in the morning, and the other 1000 at night. It isn't that expensive either. I don't know why more doctors don't know about MSM. I suffered for years and it was by accident that I found MSM. It should be looked at more by the medical community. .

Goony,
Just wanted to chime in on what Clint said;
2 types of capsules:
gelatin-pork or beef hooves
vegetable-vegetarian
If you don't need them immediately, i.e. Whole Foods,
just type in 'gelatin capsules' and you'll get lots of websites where you can get either.

Clint,
Thank you for the sites. Whole Foods uses Frontier Co-op. I like the idea of the capsule machine. I have bought capsules that I put herbs in for my cats, but haven't done it for myself, so thanks for the idea.

If there are any nutrients or suggestions Debbie, he'll know about it/them.

The Biotics Research supplements that he'll be suggesting, are used by Houston's M.D.Anderson's hospital (mainly enzymes) and their supplements are used by doctors all over the U.S.

We are even lucky to have them available to us to order. (as you can't get them is health food stores)

They are slightly more expensive, but.... your able to absorb more of what your taking, and (I at least) have felt the difference when I have taken them.

https://www.dcnutrition.com/products/index.cfm?

Here's the blurb off the website:

" .. . the products listed below are the finest pharmaceutical grade nutrients in the world. The producer of these products, BIOTICS RESEARCH CORP. is located in Houston, Texas. 800/231-5777.

When I was a pharmacist at M D Anderson hospital here in Houston the research chemists there referred me to Biotics Research as a source of the best supplements in the world. Why? Because M D Anderson Hospital buys enzymes from Biotics Research to do cancer research. That is why ! ! "

hope this helps,

Thank you Clint .. to be honest i am excited to learn about MSM being effective in just as 2 weeks for some,I would definitely bring it up with the team at work .. the book you showed me was from 1999 and since that time it has maintained a safe profile. impressive ( a better alternative to NSAIDS, I am sure you would agree )

when you were at md anderson .. what natural supplement database they used for monographs ..natural standard or natural database?

thanks again

to everyone .. will see u all next weekend ..busy week ahead.

to clarify I am from Q8 finished
most of my training in Canada( certified in the U.S and canada ) with additional months ending in nov.08
when i refere to my region i mean GCC ( Kuwait ,Qatar,UAE ,KSA ,OMAN and Bahrain ) we have something like the EU

what can I say.. this cyber town is warm and can accommodate everyone. As I said it is comforting to check this site.

wishing you all the best

Reem:

There was some confusion . . .

I wasn't the person who worked as a pharmacist at M.D. Anderson, it was just the way that blurb sounded or came off as you read it (off the doctors website)

The pharmacist is now a Chiropractor, but much more than just a Chiropractor really.

I pasted those 2 paragraphs from his website.

That book though, is one of the best books I have seen out there on MSM, and would like to know if anyone else has any other references, or info to share.

Sorry for the confusion.

I'm still catching up on all the posts, but I hope that I can respond to some of Kris's items. I hope that my group on yahoo can be helpful in the forum area. Feel free to search on groups page on yahoo.com for Crazy Sexy Cancer or email me for an invite.

There was an article originally from USA today about Michael Pollan in the Asbury Park Press (a New Jersey newspaper) yesterday. Also, a friend of mine introduced me to a natural food market called Deans that is not to far from my home. They have a customer advantage card where you get $10 back after spending $250, also you can opt to get $9 back & they will donate & match $1 to a local charity, such as the SPCA. They also have coupons & specials on organic produce every week, a great friendly staff & organic salad and juice bar. I'm so glad I found this place!

Clint-

I have found the websites for the capsule machine and capsules and MSM powder. Now I have a few questions. When you make your capsules, how many grams are in each capsule? Will the 1 lb bag of MSM, make 1000 capsules? How many grams of MSM a day do you take? And are those capsules the vegetarian ones?
What other kinds of capsules do you make? I'm so intrigued, sorry for all the questions.

Hey Jennifer:

re Turmeric:

You fill the capsules right up to the top (there are about 3 different sizes of capsules '0' '00' 000') and then you get the end cap, and place it on top of the capsule, sealing it off.

As for MSM.. I take the powder form, and use 1/2 teaspoon at a time as a serving (4x's a day) when I have issues..... and 2x's a day for a maintenance dose.

I guess you could make capsules of MSM if you wanted to but it'd be extra work.

I DID buy the 'Vegetable' capsules from WholeFoods to do my capsule making.

I usually just make capsules of the Turmeric, and nothing else. You could also do it with MSM as well.

Don't worry about taking too much MSM (with in reason I mean) cause what your body cannot use, is just released thru urination.

hope this helps,

Clint

Jennifer said...

Clint -

Oh! I thought you made MSM capsules. So you just buy the 1 lb bag of powdered MSM and then how do you take that? Just mix it in some water? Sorry for bugging you, but MSM has saved me and I'm really trying to get the best quality and most for my money. I also placed that book on MSM you recomended, on hold at the library. I've learned so much from you. Sending you a ciber hug!

Jennifer

clint said...

Hey Jennifer:

Hugs to you my dear !

The MSM comes in a 1 lb. container (from Biotics Research) and lasts a long time. I wouldn't even consider ordering from any where else (my opinion) cause I know that the quality is top notch with these people.

I take the 1/2 tsp. of MSM in 6 oz. odf water (4x's a day) and I try to take it with meals.

Also, MSM is supposed to be metabolized better with at least 1000mg of Vit.C. (which your probably already taking).

Am glad to know there's a fellow 'Sulphur Babe' out there.

;-)

Hi all you awesome people, new and old! It is great to see all you "lurkers" out there sharing with us. We are all here for one reason- to raise our level of health, to take where we are and ramp it up a notch or two.

I've been gone for a couple of weeks (new job, family trip to Disney World!), but felt all warm and cozy when I returned to discover I had been missed. What a gift, thanks!

Gosh, so many posts to get through, I want to spend time on each and every one, but alas, I have a poor, sick son on the couch next to me. Bad earache, headache, sinus pain. I've never been one to do antibiotics/over the counter meds, so we've been treating him with all kinds of neat home remedies for the earache... Sock filled with warm salt held in the ear, garlic juice in the ear, etc. Also, pushing fluids, of course, warm tea, lots of hugs (and patience!). I am so glad my kids are learning that nature (and love) can heal!!!

I wanted to share something neat with all of you. In my "past life", pre-diagnosis and pre-raw- food-and-juicing-diet, I caught every cold or flu bug out there. I am asthmatic, so I would never get away with "just a cold". I'd always end up with bronchitus or worse. For the past two weeks, I have been very stressed due to starting a new job while simultaneously trying to get the family ready for a major trip. My daughter came down with a horrendous cold/cough the week prior to our departure. The entire plane ride to and from Florida and the week in Florida I was exposed to all kinds of illnesses. Now at home, both my son and my husband are very sick. I had to basically abandon my raw food diet and juicing while gone for 8 days (to my dismay). Guess what? I am healthy!! To me, this is the best testament of my new lifestyle. It's truly amazing that my immune system has been able to fight off all the illnesses I have been exposed to, even under stress and while not eating well. I am so excited about this- it means all the money, time and effort is worth it. It means that my body has become strong and efficient, and has extra energy to fight off that canser instead of devoting effort to dealing with unhealthy or cooked food into my body. So, people, it works! It really does! Keep up the good work, and no matter where you are on this path to health, you are a step ahead of where you were before.
