La La Land

Luscious high fives and soulful hellos all!

After a quick stop at the Cure Magazine Patient and Survivor Forum in Chicago (which was one of the most rewarding AND hilarious experiences of my life- more on that later) I am now in LA getting ready for another signing tomorrow night, 7pm at the Border's in thousand oaks. I would write more but today is my one year anniversary and Brian came out to celebrate. It's hard to believe a whole year has gone by! We basically said "I Do" and then put the pedal to the metal cranking out the CSC world. I am very lucky to have spent the first year of my marriage working with my husband, but in some ways we have had more of a business partnership with tons of stress and now its time to be newlyweds. It's also time to get away from cancer for a bit and just be a couple. So off to have a glass of organic champagne! Hope to see ya tomorrow night!

PS. Check out this awesome article in WOW! Women On Writing. Thanks Angela, you did such a cool job!

You are still inspiring me....I have recorded and re-watched your doc. Just found out what I have is MS. Still not sure of my own reaction, sometimes to desperate to think. But, the only thing that is keeping me strong is you. I thank you again and again for your courage and strength, and want to let you know you are such an awesome chick, and I would have loved to meet you at one of your book signing's, however, to sad to travel to NY, and i'm right around the corner in CT. You are A Gift From God... Redsox33

Girrrrrrrrrl, I will be in CT 3 times on the tour and would love to meet you. Check our the schedule on the website and welcome to the adventure love. I hope you can get my book, I think it will help. There's a lot to be said about upgrading your diet and lifestyle and though you have MS, you are NOT MS. Cancer and MS, both so scary but life does go on and we can manage these things. You are a survivor my dear and MS won't change that.
Have a beautiful day. Beautiful person.
Peace and veggies,
Kris

Hi Kris!!! Its Jessie from Chicago (haha remember? Or should I leave embarassing reminders of my nervousness?) I hope through my craziness and overall shock I expressed how thankful I am to you!!
Congrats on your 1 year!! I hope you guys are having a beautiful day. Look forward to reading how the rest of your stops go.
The forum here changed my life and I wouldn't have found it if it wasn't for you. Look forward to telling you all the things that have come from it!

Dear Kris, We met at the Border's in DC/Virginia. I'm the 36 year old hodgkin's and breast kansir (I get to really mispell it ;) survivor. I lost count how many times I said to myself - 'that's exactly how I feel/felt/ what I say/do/buy/wear' etc as I saw your documentary and read your book. A constant ever since I was first treated in 1991 has been trying to find someone like me with similar experiences. I do need a posse and maybe I will find some through your work. You truly are an inspiration. I wish I had more time to talk to you at the book store. I'd love to connect again.
Amy

PS just bought the Healthy Juicer and some pH strips. You should get some referral bonuses - an idea for your web site.

Kris,
Just wanted to say thank you again. Since I was away when CSC aired, I recorded the documentary and watched with my husband once we got back. I have to say I was a little tense when we started...and that really surprised me because I am usually so "cool" when talking about my experience with cancer...maybe it's because it's been five years since I had my surgery and treatment and I feel it's somewhat distant now. But you brought all these emotions back, which is great. There was one thing I promised myself when I got sick and it was I would never take anything for granted again...but now that some time has gone by, I have to kick myself sometimes when I lose perspective. But watching CSC, I saw myself going through MRIs and CT scans with you. I saw myself every time you met with your doctor and every time you told yourself you would be OK. And when I saw the look on your dad's face when he heard the good news from your doctor...I saw my dad there. I could relate to so many of your experiences...it was just amazing. Thanks for bringing all those crazy feelings back to me. Thanks for keeping me grounded and thanks for inspiring me.
Best,
Danielle

Happy Anniversary!
I have been married 3 years and I was diagnosed with GIST (rare type of cancer, just like the acronym) on my 2nd year of marriage. I'm on Gleevec right now, just like Erin. I think our husbands are not only our partners and friends but our SOS buddies.
I want to meet you, not only because you are an inspiration to so many people, but because I want to meet someone as positive and full of life like you!
I am having scanaxiety today , so reading your blog is better than Valium ;).
I truly believe in angels and I think you are another one that has been put in my path to make this journey a positive one.
Thank you! or like we say in Bolivia ( my home country)...
Gracias!

Hi Kris. I just found this blog and your wonderful website. Unfortunately, I missed the premiere of your documentary on TLC but I love the trailer. It's real, moving, and inspirational.

I'm a Hodgkin's Disease survivor. I've been battling it since 2003. I just finished an allogeneic stem cell transplant in Sloan-Kettering after 2 relapses.

Thanks for sharing your story. Your honesty and strength inspire us all.

I added a link to your blog and website on my site.

Wishing you continued success with the film and happiness.

Thoughtfully,
Duane

Hey Kris,

Fellow cancer chick here! Thank you so much for sharing your story.

I was diagnosed with cancer in 2001. Last year I celebrated 5 years of remission by hosting a “Who Knew Vodka Tonics Could Help Fight Cancer?” fundraiser for Gilda’s Club New York City. Gilda’s Club is a organization that provides emotional support to people affected by cancer.

I am hosting the 2nd annual event on Thursday 9/27 in NYC and I would love if you could come. I sent the invite to your contact e-mail from the CSC site but I’m sure that was overloaded with messages. Here is the link with info on the event www.laurentovasinger.blogspot.com.

Keep me posted on the national cancer posse- I can organize in NYC :)

It was fantastic to meet your husband too!You are a delight and a beautiful light in this crazy cancer world. It looks like you have a couple days off until you go to San Francisco. If you are still in the LA area I would love to treat you to a yoga class tomorrow night. (Tuesday) My teacher is a warm, funny, delightful man. I always leave glowing. Sherman Oaks @ Black Dog Yoga 7:30p.m. If not, I'm so happy to have met you. Us groovy cancer chicks have to stick together!

HI Kris
Just wanted to say I thought that your doc was truly great, I have watched it 3 times now and you have managed articulate what I have been trying to say for the last 18 months that I have been a cancer survivor, Cancer is not a gift, or a gift I would give to you, but it is a catalyst ! This is SO true in my experience, I am 34, now living life to the fullest and being as healthy as I can, I always ate my veggies, not I just eat more! I am feeling better than ever. You have shined a light on young people with cancer. I think this is so great! HAppy anniversary and good luck with the book tour, I will try and come to see you in NYC.
thanks again, Lucy

Kris,
I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED your movie! I saw myself in you so much. The only difference was that my 2 year old son had cancer not me. He is almost 6 now and doing great, by the way! Your attitude is so much like mine. I didn't like the odds they gave me with just their treatment so I went looking for something more. I read every book I could get my hands on. I ended up on the raw food diet and my son is about 80% raw. I just wanted to say thank you for such a great movie that made me laugh and cry! Oh, and I really need that tshirt that says, "Eat your Veggies". Where the heck did you get it?
Thanks again!
Suzi

Suzi,

Yes! 100% bear hugs for managing to get your son on an 80% raw diet. That's not easy!!!!! Ya know, I wish I could still find that shirt. We'll be making shirts in the new year and will see if we can put that one on the list. Keep on truckin' lovely lady.

Kris,

I hope to have the strength to come see you when you come back to New York. I give your book out to everyone diagnosed with canser.

I have my last (please!) chemo on Monday for Stage 2 NHL, so I'm home writing and boosting my white blood cells.

If you need a laugh, drop by and vote for your favorite wig in my Wacky Wig Contest. So far, Heatmeiser is beating out Marge Simpson, but not by much: MommaSaid.net.

Good luck with your tour.

I had a pretty excellent faux pas not to long ago from a sorority sister of mine. I had St-II Hodgkin's Lymphoma and went through 6 months of AVG chemotherapy. During which, I was on a plethora of drugs to keep me from being nauseous (of course) and one of those drugs was a steroid. I gained almost 40 lbs in 6 months.

So, when I returned to school after having been out for a full year, my sisters were excited to see me. They all asked questions, of course. But the best one came from one of the girls:

"Liz, you look great."
"Oh, well thanks. I gained a lot of weight though, which sucks."
"Yeah... I thought chemo made you lose weight?"
"Errrr........apparently not?"

I love/hate people. :P
